Translation, analysis and evaluation of Sheikh Fethullah Verkanisi's "Kitāb al-Kufr wa-al-Kabāir"

The rich madrasah tradition, which has continued uninterrupted since the Ottoman Empire until today, still continues its activities in some provinces located in the Southeastern and Eastern Anatolia regions. As a matter of fact, Ohin Madrasa, built in 1890 in the Yukarı Koyunlu Village of Mutki district of Bitlis Province, by Sheikh Fethullâh Verkânisî and later handed over to his son Sheikh Alâeddin, is one of these madrasahs and is an educational center with a history of 125 years. Sheikh Fethullâh Verkânîsi, the founder of this madrasah, is an important name who made both scientific and scientific efforts in the region. In this context, the printed and manuscript works he wrote have survived to the present day. One of the manuscripts in question that has survived to the present day is his work called Kitāb al-kufr wa-alkabāir. Although the work says that people have rights and responsibilities towards each other in social life, it also emphasizes that a Muslim person should live in the manner commanded by Islam. As a matter of fact, just as the servant has the right over the servant, Allah also has the right over the servants. Regarding the major sins discussed in the work, he talks about not only the sins committed against Allah, but also the sins committed against the Prophet, as well as issues that are considered major sins in many areas, from the way women dress to how spouses should treat each other. In this study, firstly, the birth and ancestry of Sheikh Fethullâh Verkânisî, his family structure, his scientific life, his teachers and the students he educated, his works, his jurisprudential and Sufi aspects, and his relationship with the Ohin Madrasa are included. In addition, the concept of blasphemy, sin and great sin and the meanings of this concept in the eyes of sciences are touched upon in the study. In addition, in the study, all aspects such as rewriting, translation and evaluation of the manuscript called Kitāb al-kufr wa-al-kabāir, written by Sheikh Fethullâh in Kurdish and translated into Arabic by his son Sheikh Alâeddin, were tried to be discussed. In addition, information about the Arabic and verse Kurdish manuscripts of the pamphlet in question, copied by Molla Nurullah Godişkî, is given in the appendices of the study.
