Abstract (EN)
In this dissertation, the masnavi of Husrev u Shirin written by Sheyhi (who died after 1425) in 15th century was studied. This text is a translation from a Persian version written with the same name in 1177-1181 by Nizami. We can say that Sheyhi's text is actually more than a translation, it is a kind of adaptation, written with the first written language in Anatolia which is called Old Anatolian Turkish. Because the text is written in the last period of this era, it has many Arabic-Persian words and phrases. Because all of these reasons, it plays an important role when reflecting on language characteristics of the period. Our work has six main parts containing general information about the text and its language structure. In the part of Giriş (Introduction), we tried to give information about the writers' life and works, the writing date of the text and also to express the other Husrev u Shirin before, as well as mentioning all the handwritten copies, of which there are more than one hundred in Turkey and outside the country. Then the method of this study is explained in detail. In the second part of our study, the part of Dil İncelemesi (Language Analysing), we tried to define the language characteristics of the text. The third part of the work is the part of Metin (Text). In this part, we made a phonetic transcription of the whole text which has 6956 couplets. The fourth part of the work which is a translation of the text to the modern Turkish is the part of Çeviri (Translation). While we made the translation, we tried to give detailed information with footnotes when possible, in order to reveal the deep meaning in the couplets. The last main part of our study is the Dizin/Sözlük (Index/Dictionary) part, for which we show all vocabulary. In this part, we show the order of whole words alphabetically and give the meaning of each word with the number of couplets used. Except for Turkish words, we included next to the words definitions of the root or origin. In the part of Sonuç (Conclusion), we summarised our views and results. Key Words: Husrev u Shirin, Sheyhi, Old Anatolian Turkish, masnavi, Ferhad u Shirin
