The opinions attributed to İmam Shāfiˁī in Seyhizade Abdurrahman Efendi's majmaˀ al-Anhur: Chapters of ritual cleaning (taharah) and regular prayers (salaah)

Seyhizade Abdurrahman Efendi was a distinguished Muslim jurist of the Ottoman era. Having served in various positions, he was known for his scholarship and high moral character. His commentary Majmaˁ al-anhur, which he completed a year before he passed away, is considered one of the best commentaries on Ibrāhīm Ḥalabī's legal compendium Multaqā al-abḥur. Majmaˁal-anhur also constitutes one of the sources of the Majalla. Although it is a commentary on a Hanafi compendium, the work also incorporates the opinions of other schools. The thesis investigates the views attributed to Imam Shāfiˁī in the books of purity and salat of Seyhizade's Majmaˁ al-anhur mainly in relation to Imam Shāfiˁī's al-Umm as well as Muzani's al-Mukhtaṣar, Mawardī's al-Ḥāwī al-kabīr, Marwarrūzī's al-Taˁliqah, Shirāzi's Muhadhdhab, Juwaynī's Nihāyat al-maṭlab, Ruyanī's Baḥr al-madhhab, Ghazālī's al-Wasiṭ, al-Shāshī's Ḥilyat al-ˁulamāˀ, ˁImranī's al-Bayan, Rāfiˁī's Fatḥ al-ˁAzīz, Nawawī's al-Majmūˁ and Rawḍat al-ṭālibīn,Damīrī's al-Najm al-wahhāj and Sirbinī's Mughnī l-muḥtāj. In total the thesis identifies 180attributions. Of these, 54 are in purity and 126 are in the book of salat. The thesis demonstrates that 50 attributions in the book of purity and 109 of the 126 attributions in the book of salat are directly Imam Shāfiˁī's positions.
