Shayk al-Islam Ebussuûd Effendi and his jurisprudence epistles

Ebussuûd Effendi who was Shayk al-Islam for more than thirty years as well as having been in important duties such as mudarris, cadi and kadi-ul asker in XVI century when Ottoman Empire lived its peak period in every aspect because it is a period when institutions and rules were clear, had a strong impact on making this duty the highest institution of the ulama. Hence, it is evident that he contributed a lot to applications of Islam Law in Ottoman Empire with both his fetwas in that period and his epistles which he compiled on separate subjects. Therefore, detecting works of Ebussuûd Effendi is very important in terms of the fact that it reflects law problems and solution recommendation of that period. This study which focuses on Ebussuûd Effendi includes an introduction and two parts. In the introduction part, method, borders and resources of the research. In the first part, the base which compromise the science and thought world of the writer of the main subject of the research jurisprudence epistles are handled by focusing on life, works of Ebussuûd Effendi and his period. In the second part which is main subject of our research, it is aimed to eliminate belonging problems by defining and introducing jurisprudence themed epistles related with Ebussuûd Effendi. While epistles of Ebussuûd Effendi are sorted out according to their subjects and information is given about their contents, the ones which do not belong to him are talked about briefly. Then, by detecting resources used by Ebussuûd Effendi in his works which are subject of our research, brief information is given about each of them.
