Application of zero waste management in site type buildings

While human beings continue their modern life, they rapidly consume their natural resources, destroy nature and pollute the environment. The difficulty of disposal of wastes caused by the consumption of individuals has brought people to use resources optimally. In this study, the establishment of Zero Waste Management, which includes the strategy of collecting and reducing waste separately at the source, in accordance with the Zero Waste Regulation, and its implementation in site type buildings were examined. In this study, the wastes coming out of the buildings were examined with the aim of applying zero waste management in site type buildings, and studies were carried out in a site with 7 blocks and 248 residences in Kastamonu for reduction at the source. In the first stage of this study, 4 recycling bins were placed at the entrance of each block on the site, each box (paper-cardboard, plastic, glass and metal) was weighed separately within the scope of zero waste every day for a period of 30 days, and the data were recorded. At the end of the survey (pre-test) was conducted. In the second stage, posters with the theme of zero waste were hung at the entrance of each block, explaining the importance of zero waste, and the training phase was completed by watching the zero waste short film. In the third stage, the recycling bins at each block entrance were weighed separately every day for 30 days, and data were obtained. According to the findings, 201.25 kg paper-cardboard, 146.10 kg plastic, 81.75 kg glass, 35.05 kg metal before the pre-test in March-April, and 466.50 kg paper after the last test in May-June. cardboard, 453.75 kg plastic, 163.25 kg glass, 69.85 kg metal waste were collected. In the survey study, which is an awareness measurement study, the answer to the question "Do you know what the recycled products are" was answered by 37.25% in the pre-test, and 90.20% in the post-test. In the survey study, which is a waste types awareness measurement study, the answer to the question "Do you know which of the waste types are recyclable wastes" was 98.04% in the pre-test and post-test, and "Paper-Cardboard Wastes". Another question, "Do you know which of the waste types are non-recyclable waste", answered 94.12% "Vegetable and fruit peels" in the pre-test and 100% in the post-test. It has been concluded that it is very important to make the necessary announcements and awareness-raising activities both in the local press and in the international media, in order to raise awareness of people and learn what zero waste is, with zero waste management work in site type buildings, for the separate collection and separation of waste at the source.
