Problems in social work practices for asylum seekers and suggested solutions: Case of Syrian asylum seekers in İstanbul

Migration for asylum is one of the important issues of the 21st century. There are asylum-seeking migrants in many parts of the world. Some countries take more asylum seeking migration due to geography they are in. Turkey is one of those countries. Because of the war caused by political unrest in Syria, Turkey took 3.5 million refugees migrated from there. There are Syrian refugees in almost every city in Turkey. In this study, Istanbul was taken as a sample. It's investigated that the problems of Syrian refugees lived in Syria, lived while migration from Syria to Turkey and the problems while they live in Turkey. 76 Syrian asylum seekers and 5 different NGOs were interviewed. Two of the officials of two non-governmental organizations included sampling of 76 people. A NGOs two officials was also involved in the investigation except of this sample. The research was conducted by qualitative method. Preliminary study was done by researcher before interviews were conducted. For the preliminary study, some homes were visited and interviewed with Syrian asylum seekers live in there. During the preliminary study, three different NGOs authorities were interviewed by researcher. The data obtained from the interviews were separated by theme with the MAXQDA 2018 qualitative data analysis program. From these themes, proposals have been introduced in the context of social work, which is the knowledge and practice of solving social problems.
