Abstract (EN)
Composite materials are defined as materials formed by combining two or more materials from the same or different groups at the macro level to achieve a new material that combines their best properties. Composites are composed of a matrix material and a reinforcing element. These two components work together to provide unique properties in the composite. In composites, the different materials remain distinct and do not dissolve or mix with each other, making them easily distinguishable. In this study, epoxy resin was chosen as the matrix material. Epoxy resins are known for their high mechanical strength, heat and electrical resistance, and excellent adhesive properties. However, these properties can be further enhanced by incorporating suitable additives into the structure. In this context, nano-sized silicon nitride (Si₃N₄) was added to the epoxy resin in varying proportions. Si₃N₄ possesses superior properties, including high mechanical strength, low density, high thermal resistance, and excellent chemical durability. Nano-scale additives in composite structures improve the microstructure of the material, thereby enhancing its performance. In this study, tensile and three-point bending tests were performed on the prepared specimens to evaluate their mechanical properties. Tensile testing is one of the most commonly used mechanical tests to reveal the mechanical properties of materials. Results from this test can be used to determine parameters such as tensile strength, strain values, and elastic modulus. The three-point bending test was conducted to evaluate parameters such as flexural strength and elastic modulus. The results of these tests demonstrated that the incorporation of nano-sized Si₃N₄ significantly improved the mechanical performance of epoxy resin-based composites. This study highlights the importance and potential of nano additives in composite material technology
