The effect of violent tendency, rejection sensitivity and self-esteem on attitudes towards flirt violence

The purpose of this research is to examine whether young adults' attitudes towards dating violence differ according to the variables of violence tendency, rejection sensitivity and self-esteem. The research group consists of 135 (67.5%) women and 65 (32.5%) men between the ages of 18-35, a total of 200 people. In the study, to determine the predictors of young adults' attitudes towards dating violence; "Violence Tendency Scale", "Rejection Sensitivity Scale", "Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale", "Dating Violence Attitude Scale" and "Sociodemographic Information Form" were used. 'Pearson Correlation Analysis' to examine the relationships between variables; 'Multiple Linear Regression Analysis' was performed to examine the variables independently of demographic factors. As a result of sociodemographic analyses, it was found that groups aged 18-24 and with an education level of bachelor's degree or below had higher Tendency to Violence scores and male participants viewed dating violence more positively. When looking at the relationships between the variable, it was found that participants with low self-esteem were prone to violence, people with low self-esteem had high rejection sensitivity, and those with high rejection sensitivity and tendency to violence had positive attitudes towards dating violence. In the study, it was observed that violence tendency, rejection sensitivity and the control variable gender had a significant predictive effect on dating violence. 6% of the dating violence attitude score was explained by being male, 30% by the violence tendency score and 2% by the rejection sensitivity score. According to the results of this study, it was concluded that rejection sensitivity, violence tendency and gender were predictors of dating violence and the findings were found to be consistent with the literature .
