Abstract (EN)

The spread of internet and taking stage of computers in our life during the recent decade have simplified and changed the daily live. This situation creates results that affect both children and adults in positive and negative ways. Today, computer and video games that are the significant parts of computer industry, have become an indispensible part of children's life from early years of childhood. Researches show that violent computer games which are provided to children in an uncontrolled way negatively effects children from both psychological and behavioural side. Many studies in this field analyse the impacts of spending uncontrolled time with violent computer games on children's aggressiveness. In order to examine the affects of violent computer games on children's aggressiveness behaviour, this study analyzes the relationship between data related with demography of children and computer gaming habits by using the sub factors presented in Buss-Perry Aggression Scale such as physical aggression, verbal aggression, anger and hostility. The participants of the research consists of 100 children attending 7th and 8th grade in 11 primary schools in Yalova city who comes from different socioeconomic social classes and aged between 13 and 14. There are 7 questions in the first part of the questionnaire examining the demography and gaming habits of the children and 29 questions in the second part which are adopted from the Turkish translations of Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire. Data is analyzed with Microsoft SPSS 20.0 software by applying descriptive, mean analyses and Tukey HSD test and significance of the analyses is tested by using One Way Anova Test. The main hypothesis of the study has beenverified as the results of the study exhibits that playing violent computer games significantly and negatively affect the aggressive behaviour of children.
