Abstract (EN)
The place of violence in society emerges through communication technologies and the platforms developed around these technologies, introducing the concept of symbolic violence as one dimension of violence. This study, while attempting to observe the reflections of symbolic domination considered a more subtle form of violence in new media platforms, draws on Bourdieu's sociological perspective. Today, the perception, expression, and application of violence have started to appear through social media usage, distinct from face-to-face communication practices. Pierre Bourdieu's concept of symbolic violence highlights the tangible manifestation of non-physical violence in practice. According to Bourdieu's theory, this form of violence is applicable in various fields and inevitably manifests in media platforms. This study, evaluated through a Bourdieusian lens, explores how symbolic violence, evolving with the emergence of social media, creates perceptions on individuals, manipulates them, and reinforces its presence by establishing dominance. Moreover, individuals, while operating within the boundaries set by social media platforms, reproduce symbolic violence and frequently engage in practices that distinguish themselves from others.
