Abstract (EN)

Side Ancient City, one of the cities of the Pamphylia Region, is located in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. It is located 80 km east of Antalya and approximately 60 km west of Alanya. The city was effective in maritime trade as it was one of the most important harbour cities of the Mediterranean Region in Antiquity. The sheltered harbour structure of the city contributed to the development of this trade. Excavations carried out in the city in 2019-2020 revealed a monumental structure. Although we do not have precise information about the purpose and function of the monumental building uncovered, its location in the city, finds and epigraphic evidence indicate that this building is the Harbour Customs Structure. The material of the study consists of the commercial amphorae recovered from the Harbour Customs Building. The form repertoire of these finds and their distribution according to regions are discussed. In particular, the different types and diversity of amphorae helped to determine the importance of the Harbour Customs Structure in terms of maritime trade, and contributed significantly to the understanding of the ancient trade and economic relations of the city. Keywords: Eastern Mediterranean, Side, Harbour Customs Structure, Ceramics, Commercial Amphorae.
