The method of exegesis of the Shiite commentator Hashim b.Suleiman al-Bahrânî

There are many sub-sects within the Shia, one of the two main sects of Islamic history. Within these sub-sects, the Imamiyya constitutes the main backbone. The Imamiyya also contains two different schools in itself under the name of akhbari and usuli. The fiqh perspectives of these schools and their understanding of tafsir on the Qur'an have significant differences in terms of methodology. Because, while the akhbarism, which prioritized the akhbar, tended to interpret the Qur'an with the narrations coming from their own imams, the people of usuli carried out tafsir studies with an understanding similar to the method of the people of the Sunnah. It is noteworthy that scholars who are generally akhbari narrate the Qur'an in the same style. According to them, the imams are the ones who know the tafsir of the Qur'an best. Tafsir and all explanations made with narrations other than imams mean tafsir of the Qur'an with rey, which is not permissible according to them. In this regard, while the works of tafsir are put forward, the tafsirs of the scholars who narrate from almost the same imams and certain circles are naturally similar to each other. The fact that there are some differences between them depends on the softening and rigidity that periodically emerges in the akhbari understanding. In his work titled "Bahrânî de al-Burhân", which is an Akhbari, and in his work titled "fî tafsîri'l-Qur'an", he also commented on the verses in the manner stated above, as well as the narrations praising the ahlibeyti, Hazrat Ali and his supporters, but especially the first two caliphs. He based his understanding of tafsir in this form on subjective narrations that evaluate many facts and events accepted in the Islamic world within the framework of sectarian bigotry. "Bahrani" thus tried to reveal the difference in the purpose of the relevant verses he dealt with, and the world of meaning of the Qur'an in general.
