Abstract (EN)
Designers have a great responsibility to find new and sustainable ways within the system based on the use of linear and non-renewable raw materials. In this thesis, the process of material development with Symbiotic Bacteria and Yeast Colony (SCOBY) and the texture, form, coloring and patterning studies carried out to investigate the usability of the material in artistic designs were completed with applied research method and the effect of designer choices on the final product was examined. In the material oriented design process, SCOBY biofabricated material, which is mostly preferred as an art and design material in wearable art and installation works, was used in the Traditional Turkish Shadow Theater Karagöz depiction application from the field of performing and performing arts due to its qualities of light transmission after drying, patterning and coloring on the surface, and easy processing. It was deemed appropriate that the SCOBY biofabricated material used for the application should have reached a thickness of at least 1 cm when harvested and the oven drying method was chosen, and the design application was successfully completed.
