Determination of the model that best describes lactation curve in Simmental cattle

The aim of this study was to determine the best model which describes lactation curves of Simmental cattle. For this purpose, test day milk yield records of Simmental cattle reared in Karacabey State Farm in year 2016-2017 were used. In this investigation, Wood, Exponential, Cobby and Le Du, Quadratic, Parabolic Exponential, Logarithmic Linear and Inverse polynomial models were used to define lactation curves. In the study, the coefficients of determination (R2) and residual standard deviation coefficients were used as model comparison criteria. In the research, the lowest RSD and the highest R2 values were calculated with Wood model. Wood model was the best model to explain the lactation curve of simmental cows. Wood model was determined as the best model to describe the lactation curve of simmental cattle.
