Medical tea formulas used in digestive system disorders

Objective: The aim of this thesis is to examine, initially, human digestive system deeplyand, according to concerned problem, to provide usage of specific medicinal plants on common digestive system diseases as treatments. In addition, it aims to compare medicinal tea recipes that are used for treatment on common digestive diseases in Turkey with Germany that is pioneer in the field of Phytotherapy. Method: As methods, tea recipes for digestive healthcare, which are from the handbook for pharmacist and doctors called Tee-Rezepturen written by Edger Meyer, are updated with the data of current scientific results gathered from monograph information. The tendency of conventional treatment methods for digestive system diseases and the tendency of using medicinal tea are analyzed in Turkey. Results: The divisions of medicinal tea recipes for stomach and intestine diseases are as follows: the number of the recipes for stomach diseases is 68, the number of the recipes for mouth and throat diseases is 1, the number of the recipes for constipation is 10. The findings show that the tendency to use medicinal tea to cure digestive system problems is low. Conclusion: There are still lots of recipes that include medicinal plants used in conventional way. One of the recipes is using medicinal plants as tea, however, there is lack of scientific source of organized data about tea recipes. This masters' degree thesis aims to fill the gap about organized recipes information of medicinal plants used as teas and to standardize the formulas and dosage of commonly preferred medicinal tea recipes, according to current monograph data. This thesis determines that the ration of ordering medicinal teas to cure digestive system diseases by doctors is low. Additionally, it is observed that it is hard to produce standard and sterilized drugs in pharmacy shops. Keywords: Digestive system, medicinal tea, formula, recipe, gastrointestinal system.
