Fish products potential of Sinop

Turkey, located at the north, which is built on an area of 5.791 km2 Sinop Boztepe Peninsula; Turkey covers an area of approximately 0.8%. Sinop Province is one of the provinces with the highest fish outflow in the Black Sea Region, where the most intensive fishing is done in our country. Due to the intensive hunting, there are many fish meal-oil plants, aquaculture processing and evaluation facilities and cold storage in our city. Due to the fishery potential of our province, the biggest export return is obtained from fishery products. In addition, there are dam lakes with very large water surface area in our province. Intense amount of aquaculture is carried out from these dam lakes. In addition to this, our city is considered as the most powerful alternative attraction center for aquaculture facilities which have reached saturation in Aegean and Mediterranean Regions. In this regard, there are serious aquaculture project applications made in our city and some of them have started to operate. In this study, it was determined that there were 8 economic species; anchovy, bonito, horse mackerel, whiting, bluefish, mullet, red mullet and shield in Sinop. Between 2014-2018 average anchovy 8 837.74 tons / year, bonito 2 272.75 tons / year, horse mackerel 719.57 tons / year, whiting 234.31 tons / year, bluefish 96.50 tons / year, gray mullet 32.37 tons / year, red mullet 30.82 tons / year, and turbot 9.30 tons / year. In 2017, exports of processed anchovies, bonito and trout were worth $ 1,003,676. Between 2014 and 2017 sea snail meat was (respectively; 927.930, 80.190, 1.251.680 and 1.677.190 kg) exported and the industrialists from this trade respectively; 6988750, 150255, 8623196, 14230867 dollars. Sea snail operculum (respectively; 13380, 33610, 15180, 13660 kg) were exported. Snail meat is exported to USA, Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore countries. Operculum is sent to S. Arabia and Libya countries. In this study, along with sea aquaculture investments planned in Sinop, Turkey will increase the contribution of aquaculture production. Sinop, aquatic products processing plants (fish-oil, fresh fish processing, freezing and cold storage facilities) it was understood that with regard to one of the leading cities of Turkey.
