Abstract (EN)
In this study, the plants in parks, gardens, recreation areas, streets and boulevards in Sivas city center were examined in terms of landscape design principles. For this purpose, 12 green areas in Sivas city center were evaluated according to plant design principles and elements by random sampling method. According to the investigations, the root structure of the trees planted on the edges of streets and boulevards damages the pavements, approximately 2/3 of the plants in green areas have high and medium water requirements, the temperature requirements of some plant species are not met, and the selection of plants suitable for salty and alkaline soil structure is not at the desired level. It has been determined that the density of evergreen plants and fragrant plant species that can create a color effect in four seasons is insufficient. Moreover, it has been determined that plants are generally designed by establishing a relationship with their usage areas, and fine-textured plants are also included along with tree species with high plant tolerance levels. As a result, in the green areas of parks, gardens, recreation areas, boulevards and streets in the city center of Sivas, considering the continental climate of the province, natural plant species as well as evergreen, fragrant and colorful flowers, especially in the recreation areas, are provided to attract people. It was thought that new design models were needed that would relax and take away the stress of the city. Key Words: Park, Recreation Area, Plant Material, Landscape, Sivas
