Abstract (EN)

The alteration of development policies has affected the structure and mission of non-governmental organizations after the Second World War period. The use of the concept of development in the terms of modernization, industrialization, and progress in underdeveloped and developed countries has enabled social life to be evaluated within the concept of development as well as economic life. In this thesis, I aimed to examine the programs implemented by non-governmental organizations conducted in the field of development for the empowerment of refugees and local women. I did some interviews with non-governmental organizations to comprehend the scope of empowerment activities. In the activities of NGOs, I researched their compatibility with the perspective of "Women in Development", "Women and Development", and "Gender and Development" in the development literature. Accordingly, I discussed women's empowerment as social and economic empowerment in the field of development. I focused on the issue of women's empowerment and I tried to understand the impact of the empowerment activities on women's empowerment in the topics of class and gender, community participation, and social cohesion of local Turkish women and refugee women, especially who migrated to Turkey due to the Syrian civil war after 2011. Key Words: Development, Development Policies, Woman, Empowerment, Women Empowerment, Non-governmental Organisations.
