A research on individual narcissism in youth organizations of political parties

The concept of narcissism has been one of the most studied topics in psychology literature since the 1980s. The fact that narcissistic personality traits are seen and experienced in societies and institutions may cause negative effects on individual and organizational levels. Psychological and cultural characteristics of the political field which has a high popularity in our country and which has the potential to mobilize the masses, and their effects on the individual, organization and society direction have been investigated in the context of individual narcissism. In this study, the individual narcissism levels of the political parties in the youth organization members of the political parties are examined and the inferences about the individual narcissism tendencies of the political parties in the youth organizations are tried to be made. The aim of this study was to investigate the narcissism levels of individuals in youth organizations of political parties according to demographic and members' evaluations of the organization, and a quantitative study was designed for this purpose. In the study, which was limited to Sakarya and Kocaeli provinces, the narcissistic personality inventory, which was developed by Ames, Anderson, Rose (2006) and standardized to Turkish by Atay (2009), was used in the studies. Within the scope of the research, 350 questionnaires were distributed to the participants, 324 valid questionnaires were included in the study and analyzed. One-way ANOVA test and independent groups T-test were used to reach the research aim. According to the findings of the research, it was found that the narcissistic features of the members of the youth parties of the political parties, narcissistic situations were realized with different sub-dimension features, however, the narcissistic features also showed significant differences at the level of the parties. The data obtained from the surveys applied to the members of the youth organizations of political parties and the situations in which the members showed individual narcissism characteristics were mostly determined in the sub-dimensions of superiority, exploitation and exhibitionism in line with the hypotheses and analyzes tested.
