Effect of design faults in manufacturing tableware ceramics shaped by slip molding

Products manufactured in ceramic industry are first come to life in design period. The product that will be manufactured is firstly sketched in two-dimension and than finalized by constructing a three dimensional model.The mostly preferred forming procedure by industrial ceramic companies is plaster since it is economic, easily formable with a smooth surface and water absorbing nature. The aim of this work is to investigate industrial ceramic model designing, and determine how and in what degree the flaws caused by designs of tableware ceramics formed using plaster affects the manufacturing stages. Within the content of the investigation, essential theoretical information is scrutinized, general properties of tableware ceramics is considered, and methods that have to be followed in ceramic forming procedures are evaluated.In relation to the research, authorized personnels and employees of Keramika Seramik A.Ş. manufacturing dinner ceramics using plaster forming method and academics who have specialize in this area are interviewed. Additionally, quality standards and quality methods established by Keramika Company itself, and mission, authority and responsibility specified in this areas by the company are investigated (Attachment 4,5,6).With the finalization of the research, information concerning to the companies in this matter that will help to develop solution proposals, which will not interrupt manufacturing process were reached. This research will serve as a source to personnel?s, companies and firms in industrial ceramic area and students in design and industrial design departments.
