In this study, leaf and fruit extracts of Smilax excelsa, were investigated for antimutagenic activity by Ames/Salmonella / microsome test method. Fruit and leaf extracts was not observed the cytotoxic effect with 10-100 mg/ml doses. Antimutagenity analysis were studies with S9(+) and S9 (-) on Salmonella typhimurium TA 98 and TA 100 strains. Maximum antimutagenic activity was observed with leaf extracts at 100 mg/ml dose on TA 98 strain in the absence of S9 as 88%. And also all the extracts of Smilax excelsa showed strong antimutagenic activity.
