Examination of reading FOMO levels of class teacher candidates in terms of some variables

The main purpose of this research is; The aim of this study is to develop the FOMO scale for reading and to determine the level of reading habits, reading motivation, reading skill self-efficacy perception and FOMO for reading and to examine the relationship between reading FOMO level and reading motivation. However, it was aimed to determine whether FOMO for reading is a significant predictor of reading motivation and its components. The sample group of the research consists of 578 primary school teacher candidates (270 FOMO scale AFA for Reading, 308 regression analysis) studying in the Primary School Teaching Department of 5 Education Faculties in the fall semester of 2020-2021. "Relational Survey Model" was used in this study, which was carried out with a quantitative research methodology. As a data collection tool in the study; Reading-Oriented FOMO Scale, Reading Habits Questionnaire Adult Form (OAA-Y), Adult Reading Motivation Scale, Reading Skills Self-Efficacy Perception Questionnaire were used. In addition, within the scope of the study, the FOMO scale for reading was developed by the researcher, and the validity and reliability studies of the measurement tool were carried out. The reliability coefficient (Cronbach Alpha) of the scale based on internal consistency was calculated as α = .83 for the whole scale, and it was concluded that the scale consisted of two sub-dimensions, "Factor 1" (α =.78) and "Factor 2" (α =.78). has been obtained. Fear of Missing Out, which is based on Self-Determination Theory, is known as Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) in the international literature. This study is the first study in the field in terms of developing a scale related to the FOMO level for reading. Due to global health, the questionnaires were handed over from the search and delivered to Docs online with Google. The (descriptive) definitions of caution when analyzing the data obtained from the participants were focused on regression and for later review. For this purpose, IBM SPSS 22 and Monte Carlo PCA package programs were used in the analysis of the data. EFA and regression analyzes were used to determine the existence of the relationship between some variables and the predictive power of this relationship. In line with the research findings, it was determined that the reading habits, reading skills self-efficacy perceptions and reading motivations of the primary school teacher candidates were high. It was concluded that FOMO levels for Reading were close to the average. Another finding of the study is that there is a significant positive correlation between the level of FOMO for reading and reading motivation. The finding regarding the last question of the research is that FOMO for reading is a predictor of reading motivation. In addition to these findings, it was determined that the reading skill self-efficacy perceptions of the primary school teacher candidates were higher than the reading habit item and total scores.
