Examination of the opinions of the primary school teachers on the use of children's books in interdisciplinary teaching

Children's books are often used in teaching as materials. However, these materials generally come to the fore independently in classes such as grammar, literature or life science. However, interdisciplinary approach in teaching is becoming more and more important. Children's books can be used in schools as a theme for interdisciplinary approach. Teachers are the ones who carry these books to the teaching environment. Therefore, teachers ' opinions on such an application are important. In this study, it is aimed to determine the opinions of classroom teachers about the use of children's books in interdisciplinary teaching. In order to reveal the results of the research, it is useful to look at the subject from a general point of view, and also from a perspective that privatizes the situation. Therefore, two sub-problems were identified in the study. For the second sub-problem, a sample book needs to be determined. For this purpose, two different forms were used: List of 100 Basic Literature Expert Opinion Form and Children's Book Review Form prepared by the researcher. Kuklacı (Tuğcu, 2012) was identified as a sample Book of the study. Research is the case study of qualitative research methods. The study group was selected with objective sampling method. For the study group, the knowledge of children's books and interdisciplinary teaching is defined as a criterion with the completion of the 1-4th grade cycle at least twice. A questionnaire was developed by the researcher in order to determine the knowledge of classroom teachers about interdisciplinary teaching and children's books. In order to determine the Working Group in accordance with these criteria, it has been studied with 30 volunteer classroom teachers from a total of 48 classroom teachers working in the most crowded school of Giresun/Center. The questionnaire form of 14 teachers was accepted as valid in the study. It has been determined that three of these teachers are familiar with interdisciplinary teaching and children books. Two interview forms prepared by the researcher as data collection tools. The second of these two forms arose from the need to collect data from the first in more depth. The results (data) were evaluated by using descriptive analysis. As a result, three teachers have positive opinions. As a positive, It has been concluded that the use of a book in the course will encourage children to read, to understand what they read, to develop their ability to analyze and synthesize, to use the issues in values education, to participate more in the lessons, and to make connections with children's daily life through children's books. As a negative, it is concluded that every book will not be used in every subject, and that it will be difficult to use it if the Ministry of National Education does not make a change in the programs in this direction. It is concluded that three teachers have expressed the positive opinions about the usability of the book Kuklacı in interdisciplinary teaching.
