VI ABSTRACT The term motivation is in general described as stimulating force causing the living ones to specific goals, directing them to the specific point, carrying on with tension and motion till the specifed goal being realized, ending the tension to lead up to new motion for another goal after the specifed goal realized. The motivation about which endless research are made, is also described as the whole mental and peripheral processes allowing and individual to start and to carry on a motion and to reach to the aim; affecting on individual to choose among different motion. The main purpose of this study, in which the motivation is examined in detail, is to establish factors which affect professional motivation of elementary school teachers. For that end, at first the motivation is conceptually analyzed in this study. Afterwards, in order to establish factors affecting the professional motivation of elementary school teachers, an empirical study is made. In this framework, a fieldwork towards those teachers working in Kütahya district's elementary schools is carried out. Findings of the study establish that the most important motivational factor by elementary school teachers is those factors related to students. The results of the study also refer that there is no meaningful connection between the priority order of motivational factor groups by teachers and sex variable.
