Abstract (EN)

This study examines clasroom teachers' views on teaching national history. In the research, descriptive survey method has been used. The clasroom teachers who work in Viranşehir disctrict of Şanlıurfa form the research group of the study. A personal information form, a survey prepared and semi-structured interview form for evaluating teacher views on teaching national history has been used in order to collect data. The analysis of the data has been made with SPSS program. According to the study findings, teachers have positive opinions about national history, the studies of national history in the schedule are not sufficient, the trips to museums and regions increase the interest of students in the course, the students have difficulties to understand historical definitions, concretisation and visualization are important for teaching history, and finally, teachers think that student-centered methods and techniques which lead students to make research should be preferred in teaching national history rather than using methods that prioritize memorization. The study forms a source for studies that focus on national history and teaching history in general. At the end of the research, some suggestions have been made in light of the study findings.
