Abstract (EN)

Since the day it emerged, the cinema has been used as an ideological perception tool, but that has allowed it to have more results compared to physical pressure. In both of the world wars, it emerged as the most important war justification tool for the power holders. In the scope of this study, the cinema's effect on spreading ideology and controlling people is analyzed based on concepts such as hegemony and cultural industry, and examples of the use of this effect in the world of cinema are discussed. The point aimed to be reached with this study is specifically to determine the methods used by the United States of America to utilize the power of the cinema during the cold war era (1947-1957) and to determine the social and political reasons for the emerging of the rebellion characters on Hollywood against these methods. In line with the obtained results, it is seen that the cinema not only serves the power holders to establish hegemony, it is also allowed to be a platform for people to criticize the potency. With this study, it is seen that the McCarthy era movies (1947-1957) which used Hollywood to impose their own ideology on people, couldn't prevent the emerge of the rebellious characters such as Marlon Brando and James Dean, who were ideologized by the younger generation. The sociological and ideological examination of the sample movies that have been chosen in this study aims to be used to support the findings that are being obtained in this frame. For this purpose in the last part of the study, the sociological and ideological analyses of ''The Wild One (1953)'', ''On the Waterfront (1954)'' and ''Rebel Without a Cause (1955)'' films are included, which are thought to have turned Marlon Brando and James Dean into figures of rebellion against the period by directors such as Laslo Benedek, Elia Kazan and Nicholas Ray, who are thought to have displayed an oppositional attitude towards the aforementioned period.
