The evaluation of the foreign policy perspectives of the Republican presidents of the United States of America after the Cold War in the framework of realism theory

The Cold War covers the period of the bipolar world order between the United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. With the end of the Cold War period at the beginning of the 1990s, there was a transition to a unipolar world order in which the USA assumed a global hegemony power. The main reasons for this are; The disintegration of the USSR and the end of its political dominance, the increase in attempts to protect political stability with the establishment of new states, the USA's reaching a position to compete with developed countries, maintaining its tradition of democracy and playing a role in the global market economy. This study deals with the similarities and differences between the two main parties of the USA, the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. In this context, the foreign policy decisions of Republican Party presidents Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, George W. Bush and Donald Trump will be examined. In the study, the main reasons for the election of Republican presidents are explained based on realist theory. Historical examples have shown that Republican presidents, especially in foreign policy, take a more active role in foreign policy than Democratic presidents and are inclined to take more radical decisions. Therefore, the study focuses on the fact that the USA is more active in foreign policy during the Republican presidential period compared to the Democratic presidents.
