Comparison of Different Treatment Techniques Delivered to Left Sided Breast Cancer Patients With Different Algorithms. The achievement of radiation therapy is to conserve the normal tissues while irradiate the tumor tissues. It is possible to irradiate the tumor cells and conserve the normal tissues with the radiation therapy techniques developing recent years. The main normal tissues that must be conserved for breast carcinoma patients are lungs, contralateral breast, heart, left anterior descending (LAD) and spinal cord. In this study, we investigated six radiotherapy tecnique with three dose calculation algorithms which are anisotropic analytical algorithm (AAA), pencil beam algorithm (PBC) and Acuros XB (AXB). The calculations were performed with all of three dose calculation algorithms. In this study, three dimensional radiation therapy (3D-CRT), four-field IMRT, six-field IMRT and nine-field IMRT, irregular surface compensator and volumetric modulated arc therapy techniques applied to eleven patients with left sided breast carcinoma and every single radiotherapy technique calculated three dose calculation algorithms. Statistically significant differences detected in the treatment tecniques except VMAT for luns, heart and lad doses (p<0.001). For the left lung received 5 grays, the differences was observed with Acuros XB according to AAA (p=0.003). For the lungs received 20 grays, there is no differences with six and nine field IMRT and there is no differences in the mean dose of the lungs. For the V>%107, there is no differences with 3D-CRT and ISC radiotherapy tecniques. The improved dose calculation algorithms performs more realistic dose calculation for different density tissues. The different values calculated with algorithms may be based on better transport of radiation in the tissues with updated algorithms.
