Analysis of the works of colonial period bengal politician and islâmic thinker Maulâna Muhammad Akram Khan and the commentary method in his Tafsiru'l-Qur'ân from various perspectives

This thesis examines the tafsir method of Maulana Muhammad Akram Khan, the first Muslim journalist in the Bengali language in the Indian subcontinent, a politician of the British colonial period and an Islamic thinker. Again, this study emphasizes his contributions to Islamic knowledge as a prominent political leader and intellectual figure. In this regard, the thesis focuses on Muhammad Akram Khan's unique contributions to the field of Islamic learning in the Bengali language, and his contributions that shaped the country following the demands of the period. It also aims to draw lessons from these for today. This study is composed of two parts: "The Works Of The Colonial Period Bengal Politician And Islamic Thinker Maulana Muhammad Akram Khan" and "The Examination Of The Commentary Method In Maulana Muhammad Akram Khan's Tafsîru'l-Qur'an From Varıous Angles." The first chapter is divided into two subheadings. The first section briefly discusses the emergence of Islamic education in Bengal and the effects of colonialism. The second section discusses the life, works and scientific legacy of Maulana Muhammad Akram Khan. The second chapter of the thesis is structured under a single heading. This heading focuses on Qur'an studies, Qur'an translations and exegesis activities in Bengali. Again, the focus is examining Mawlana Muhammad Ekrem Khan's Tafsir al-Qur'an. The sources of information he used for applying dirayat and riwayat are focused on this chapter. Besides, some examples of his exegesis in Arabic and rhetoric are continued here. Finally, examples from the Surah al-Fatiha and Surah an-Nas are given. In the conclusion, along with an academic evaluation, some suggestions for studying Maulana Muhammad Akram Khan are presented, considering his great contributions to Bengali society in the fight against colonialism, political oppression and religious superstitions.
