Özet (EN)

Turkey is under the influence of earthquakes due to its geographic location. The Kocaeli earthquake happened in 17 August 1999 caused great loss of life and property in Adapazarı and its surrounding provinces. Therefore, it is necessary to prevent loss of bearing capacity of the soil during the earthquake. Buildings are constructed by selecting suitable systems according to the soil characteristics. If they are needed to be built on soils with undesirable properties, appropriate improvement and design criteria should be developed. In this study, displacements occurring in an inclined area affected by earthquake loads were determined. Piles with anchors, piles with ground nails (ground improvement techniques) have been applied in order to restrict the displacements and prevent the failure of the soil. The analyses were conducted by using the Plaxis program. Piles with anchors and piles with ground nails systems were applied to limit the slipping of the region subject to big displacements. With the proposed systems, the strength of the soil increased and the displacements remained within acceptable limits.
