Abstract (EN)
Modeling tunnel advancement in complex ground conditions requires significant engineering judgment and is an integral part of the design and construction of tunnels. Insufficient data and improper design procedures may lead to dramatic consequences. Realistic estimations of the ground behavior, displacements, and support pressures are possible with accurate numerical models. In this study, the advancement of Tunnel A93 is investigated by 1-D semi-empirical assessments and two-dimensional finite element analyses. This thesis aims to introduce an assessment of the tunnel advancement with TBM and NATM through adverse ground conditions based on the actual convergence measurements of Tunnel A93. The tunnel A93 is located in Turkey, which is to be served as a railway tunnel for a high-speed railway line. Due to the challenging soil conditions, many problems, including several stoppages due to shield jamming and the partial collapse of the tunnel, have occurred during the excavation. In order to assess the response of the tunnel and develop better support systems, field monitoring data have been compiled. Field performance and numerical analysis results are comparatively discussed, along with the effectiveness of mitigative design solutions. Additionally, lining deformations and their interaction with excavation sequences are assessed.
