Social sciences study on the concept map and teaching efficiency of the unit of the "Democracy in the 6th grade"

The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of the concept mapping technique on student success in terms of teaching effectiveness. To achieve this aim, concept maps were prepared and presented to the students with the 6th grade Social Sciences lesson "Adventure of Democracy" unit. As a result of the exercise, the success levels of the students were examined. The research was applied on 45 students who were educated in 6 / A and 6 / B classes of Fatih Secondary School of Demirci District in Manisa Province, during the second period of 2016-2017 academic year. During the Democracy's Adventure Unit, students in the experimental group were given a training supported by concept maps while the students in the control group were taught with a structured approach as dictated by the Ministry of National Education. In the study, Unequal Control Group Model was used from Semi-Trial Models. The data collection tool was created from the questions that were asked in the previous central examinations. In the experimental period, pre-test was applied to the groups firstly and post-test was applied after the experiment. Then, these results were compared. In the experimental group in which the effect of the concept mapping technique on teaching was tried to be determined as a result of the compared results, a meaningful difference was found compared to the control group. This proves the significance of the concept map technique on the "Adventure of Democracy" unit. Key Words: Concept, Concept Map, Social Sciences, Adventure of Democracy
