The effects of using animation and digital map for students? capabilities to perceive the space in social studies lesson

The aim of this search is developing the skill of Sensation of Place for the 6th grade Primary School students? by using the animation and digital map (education technologies) in the Unit of ?Life on the Earth?.In this search a success test used which formed with 24 multiple questions. The hypotheses of the search are tested by the usage of SPSS 15 program. The measurement have been applied on the 50 students of Atatürk Primary School -which is in the city centre- 6th Grade . The students of 6/B has been the control group and the students of 6/D has been the experiment group. The subjects has finished at 9 lesson minutes for each classes and lasted after 3 weeks.According to the search results , It was seen that there wasn?t an obvious difference in the first academic test success points between the students who have been the experiment and control groups before the implementation. After the implementation it was ensued that there has been a clear difference in the last academic test success points between the experiment and control groups but this difference was in favour of experiment group. It was seen that there has been a clear difference in the academic test success points of Experiment group, both before and after the implementation. It was seen that there has been a clear difference in the academic test success points of Control group, both before and after the implementation.This result proved that usage of the animation and digital maps improved the academic success of the Social Sciences students. As a subject of Social Sciences, usage of the visual materials- supported by the computer- has a huge effect, especially in the matter of the subjects of geography which is difficult for students to understand.Key words: Teaching Social Sciences, Animation, Maps, Skills of Sensation of Place
