A meta-synthesis study on research on social gender in the field of social studies education

In the adventure of life that begins with the birth of a person, he may face many issues related to his gender. Being a woman or a man, people continue their lives with the values or stereotypes that society ascribes to gender. This situation, which is defined as gender; It can show itself in many areas such as religion, culture, state, law, family, education, mass media. Gender; Roles for women and men can also emerge with stereotypes, inequalities and discrimination. In order to cope with all these, solutions are developed in many areas, and education is one of these areas. Social studies, which is the primary course in teaching what is in life, also plays an important role in gender. Social studies, which has a rich content of social sciences, It has an important place in eliminating inequality and discrimination with effective and effective results on gender issues. With the values and skills in the social studies curriculum; It is important in raising active, participatory and strong individuals. In this study, which aims to synthesize the studies on gender in Social Studies education, meta-synthesis method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. A total of twenty-two studies, twelve of which were articles and ten theses, were included in the research. The data were analyzed by content analysis method. According to the research findings, scientific publications in the field of social studies on gender; most of the studies were carried out by female researchers, the studies on the subject were concentrated in 2020, the most studies were carried out on gender/gender perception, the textbooks were examined in terms of gender with a significant frequency, document review as a data collection method and content analysis in data analysis came to the fore was found out.
