Determination of global literacy levels of prospective social sciences teachers

The primary aim of this study is to determine the global literacy levels of pre-service social studies teachers. Increasing interdependence on a global scale has highlighted the importance of multidimensional citizenship and critical thinking skills, thereby necessitating the inclusion of global literacy as a key component in teacher education programs. In this context, the study was designed using a survey model to describe the current state. The sample of the research consists of a total of 205 pre-service teachers enrolled in the Social Studies Education programs at the Faculties of Education of İnönü University and Gaziantep University during the 2024–2025 academic year. As the data collection tool, the "Global Literacy Scale," whose validity and reliability have been established in the literature, was employed. The quantitative data obtained through the scale were analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques and relevant software packages. The findings of the study revealed that the global literacy levels of pre-service social studies teachers are high.
