Social studies teachers opinions about the concept of the Republican women

This research was conducted with the aim of dim the opinions of Social Studies Teachers about "the concept of the Republican woman". Women are indispensable individuals of society. Because women are the only owners of the motherhood. Women with this attribute should value equally in all areas of society. When we make an evaluation from the past to the present, social, religious and cultural changes in society have led to changes in women's status. This change has progressed in a positive way in all areas with the proclamation of the republic. The reforms carried out with the proclamation of the republic brought serious developments for the benefit of women. In this study, qualitative research method was used to determine the opinions of social studies teachers on the concept of Republic women. With open-ended questions and a semi-structured interview form, teacher opinions were taken and the data obtained were subjected to content analysis. The study group consists of 48 Social Studies teachers working in Çukurova district of Adana in the 2015-2016 academic year. While the gender and vocational seniority of social studies teachers were different, they stated that the concept of the republic woman gained modernity, freedom and equality to women. They have stated that women have rights in many areas in society and that the image of a civilized woman is reflected with the declaration of the republic. Furthermore, teachers have the opinion that adequate coverage is given to women in the topics and objectives of Social Studies course and guide books. They emphasized that the concepts of equality and rights gained importance while interpreting the status of the republic women in society. When looking at Social Studies teachers' views on the place of the Republican woman in society, it is seen that their views are prominent that the women must be equal with the men and must have the right. Thus, the definition of the republic women's profile, their rights and the views of female and male social studies teachers on this issue were evaluated in order to determine the place of women in society together with these rights.
