Investigation of Social Studies teachers' views on the use of mobile augmented reality applications in education

While the technological developments around the world continue without slowing down and unstoppable, education has not been delayed in taking part in these rapid developments. Today, with the effect of pandemic conditions in the world and in Turkey, the use of technology has become a necessity rather than a privilege in education and training. Social Studies Course, which is an up-to-date course on the use of cognitive technology and the conscious, productive and productive use of cognitive technology, aims to teach individuals their social rights, to live in harmony in society, to live in a way that provides integrity with society rather than interacting with society. For this reason, it is important to use the technological devices that direct social developments and the applications in these devices effectively in the teaching of Social Studies Course. The purpose of this research is to examine the views of Social Studies Teachers on the use of Mobile Augmented Reality Applications in education. For this purpose, interviews were conducted to reach the views of Social Studies Teachers working in Aksaray on the use of mobile augmented reality applications in education. In order to obtain data in the research, "semi-structured interview form", one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The study group of the research consists of 20 Social Studies Teachers working in the central district of Aksaray. The research was carried out within the scope of Social Studies Education in the fall semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. In the research, interviews were held with the study group on the use of mobile augmented reality applications used on smart phones in education. The research data was analyzed using content analysis. According to the results of the research, the answers given by the Social Studies Teachers regarding the use of mobile augmented reality applications in education are revealed with the data that the majority of the Social Studies Teachers have no knowledge about Mobile Augmented Reality Applications. Finally, recommendations were made according to the results of the study.
