Examination the attitude of social studies secondary school 8th grade students about the importance of unity of family by metaphors

The family, that consists of the father, mother and children who are related by blood, is considered as the smallest institution of the society. The family institution, where the education of the individuals began, is the first place that children learn to evaluate their actions whether ethical or not. However, the most important social values, that keep the society together, are taught in family. The attitude of people towards each other in social life affects individuals from many aspects. Also, the children are affected from attitude of the society. Therefore, their personality improves through the way that is drawn by society itself. The factors like strong communication, toleration and sympathy among the family members, are important on intensifying the relationships of family. The aim of the study is to determine the attitude of the students on importance of family values through applying metaphorical techniques. Participants of the research are social studeis secondary school eighth grade students studying in Ankara during the 2019-2020 academic year. The survey social studies has 447 participants. The datasets of the survey are collected with statement. The statement is "the unity of family is like …., because ….". Content analysis method is used in the research. The overall results of the research show that students consider the unity of family as tree, flower, chain, water, life and the sun. However, the participants used the same metaphors in different categories.
