Evaluation of social studies secondary school curriculum in terms of othering phenomenon

In this study, the role of the social studies course in preventing the phenomenon of othering, which is a major social problem, was questioned based on the mission of raising Democratic individuals. In this case, the program, which theoretically looks at its equipment and competence, has been analyzed in terms of the existence of factors such as the values adopted in solving the problem, the culture of democracy, respect for differences, rights and Freedoms, Justice, rule of law, equality, non-discrimination, prejudices and stereotypes, empathy, critical thinking, sensitivity, problem solving, communication, responsibility, respect for Human Rights. In this study, the qualitative research approach was adopted and data was obtained using the document analysis method and the collected data was evaluated using the content analysis technique. The main data collection sources in the study are the Social Studies 2005 and 2018 education programs. In this case, the objectives, areas of learning, achievements, concepts, skills and values, which are the main elements of the program, were subjected to a deep analysis in terms of the existence of criteria previously determined by a broad literature review and reference to expert opinion. The analysis concluded that the program is well equipped for the existence of factors that are considered criteria for the solution of the othering problem, that a Democratic mood was tried to prevail in the program, and that in the renewed program, the asset in question in democratic values increased relatively compared to the previous program, so that the program could be one of the.
