Relationship between social exclusion and crime

The concept of exclusion has become the focus of debates in France, in 1960 with the direction of the discourse on social exclusion of the poor. With Rene Lenoir's expression, which states that in France, a segment of society, without of the social protection and representing 10 percent of the total population, is "excluded", the concept has reached to a more inclusive content beyond poverty. The concept has taken place as "social exclusion" in the literature to express the social problems and inequalities, which emerged from the crises in the 1970s and subsequently implemented neo-liberal policies, which formed in line with the deepening of the globalization process. At the present time, the concept of social exclusion offers a new, holistic and multidimensional approach to inequality, insecurity and temporariness and it plays a key role in the creation of social policies. From primitive ages, until today, the concept of crime appears to be a universal problem, which all societies develop policies to overcome. In parallel to the negative social consequences of globalization process, the problem of crime has deepened more, although it is a problem that all societies are familiar to. On the other hand, efforts to define the concept, establish causes and develop solution strategies do not seem satisfying. The concept of social exclusion, with its holistic and multidimensional approach, has the potential to take an important place in the crime debate.
