The relationship between personality traits of social work students and career planning: The case of Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University

The socio-economic progress of countries depends on the correct use of human resources. As a society, there is a need for individuals to make career planning by being aware of their personality traits. In this study, it is aimed to determine the relationship between the personality traits of social work students and career planning. In the theoretical part of the study, a detailed literature review was made. In the data collection part, the questionnaire form was created using demographic questions, five-factor personality scale (neuroticism, extroversion, openness, agreeableness, conscientiousness) and career future scale (career adaptability, career optimism, perceived knowledge of job markets) Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University Economics and Administrative It was applied to 250 students studying in the Social Work Department of the Faculty of Sciences in the 2020-2021 Spring semester. Independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA test, Levene test, Tukey HSD test and Pearson Correlation analysis were used in the analysis of the data. In the results obtained, no relationship was found between the career adaptability sub-dimension and the neuroticism sub-dimension. However, it was observed that there were positive and significant relationships between the subdimensions of career optimism and perceived knowledge about the job markets and the sub-dimension of neuroticism. On the other hand, positive significant relationships were found between the career planning scale and the sub-dimensions of personality traits such as extraversion, agreeableness, openness and conscientiousness.
