Review of graduate thesis on social work

In this study, which aims to examine the postgraduate theses prepared in the department of social work and other departments on social work issues, the postgraduate theses prepared in universities in Türkiye until 2023 were analyzed bibliographically by document review method. Accordingly, postgraduate theses on social work that were made available online through the National Thesis Center Web page of the Presidency of the Council of Higher Education were identified. The theses were divided into three main categories: those prepared in the department of social work and social services, those with the concept of social work in the title of the thesis, and theses on social work prepared in all other fields. Theses in all three categories were classified and analyzed separately according to the years they were prepared, the university, the language in which the theses were prepared, their types and the fields of social work. In addition, theses prepared in the department of social work and the department of social services were analyzed according to their methods, and all theses related to social work in the title of the thesis and in all other fields were analyzed separately according to the disciplines in which they were prepared. While determining the disciplines in which the theses were prepared, the first concept preferred in the subject tab from the introductory information about the thesis was taken into consideration. In this context, in the first part of the thesis, the discipline of social work and social work profession, basic concepts and social work fields are mentioned. In the second part, the methodology of the thesis is given, while the third part of the thesis includes the findings and interpretations including the analysis of the data obtained. In the last chapter, the findings are discussed and conclusions about the general outlook and trend of graduate theses in the field of social work are given. Accordingly, the research findings show that most of the theses on social work prepared by the departments of social work and social services and other disciplines are prepared in Turkish and are at the master's level, the number of theses has increased over the years, and most of the theses are prepared in the fields of family, children and women. Regarding the methodology of the theses, although quantitative (45%) and qualitative (44%) methods were equally preferred in the theses prepared in the department of social work, it was determined that quantitative method was preferred in master's theses (51.6%) and qualitative method was preferred in doctoral theses (53.7%). Another important result is that it has been determined that quite a lot of theses have been produced by different disciplines in different fields of social services.
