Career planning of social work undergraduate students: Case of Yalova University

The aim of this study is to determine the institutions that they want to work in and the factors that they will give importance to in their working life after their graduation. The population of the research is Yalova University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Department of Social Work 1.2.3. and 4th grades. The research is in screening model. Data were collected by using a questionnaire prepared from 355 students who accepted to participate in the study voluntarily. SPSS 22 program was used for data analysis. In order to analyze the comparative findings, t-test, correlation and one-way analysis of variance (Anova) tests were used. According to the results of the research; One of the reasons why students choose social services department is to find the profession appropriate for them. It was found that female students found social work profession more suitable for their personal characteristics and interests than male students. Approximately 50% of students think that they have sufficient knowledge about career opportunities and working areas in social services. The majority of students in the social work department are concerned about becoming unemployed after graduation. The Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services takes the first place among the institutions that students prefer to work after graduation. Social work students give more importance to motivation factors in working life. Students expect the institution they intend to work with firstly that they love the work / field they will work in and that they will be offered the opportunity to participate in decisions about them in the workplace. In addition, statistically significant differences were found between the students' expectations of motivation and hygiene factors from the workplace they wanted to work with and the variables of gender and grade levels.
