Abstract (EN)

In Europe, the field of social work increasingly emphasizes elderly care. Various approaches are being developed and implemented to enhance the quality of life for older adults, strengthen their social connections, and support their cognitive functions. One of these approaches is art-based support programs. These programs go beyond the traditional care model, which focuses solely on physical needs, by addressing the emotional, social, and mental needs of individuals. In this context, the aim of this thesis is to explore the use of art-based support programs in elderly care from a social work perspective in Europe and to evaluate their applicability in Turkey. The research also aims to understand how these programs affect the physical, social, and emotional needs of older adults and to provide insights into how these programs can be integrated into social work practices. The study is conducted through a literature review method. The existing literature on the use of art-based support programs in elderly care in Europe is examined in detail, and the topic is addressed from a social work perspective. The sources reviewed were selected using key terms such as art, social support programs, elderly care, social work practices, elderly support, and psychosocial support. The research focuses on the role of art-based support programs in enhancing the quality of life and strengthening the social connections of older adults, outlining their scope and components in elderly care. It also aims to assess the current state of these programs in elderly care in Turkey. Based on the findings of the study, recommendations are presented under two headings: suggestions for the literature and suggestions for practical implementation.
