Comparison of master's thesis on child poverty in the field of social work and sociology

The issue of poverty is a complex phenomenon that has been the subject of many studies and researches in various fields until today. Poverty has been one of the main problems of all countries for many years, regardless of the level of development, and although it is not easy to solve, it lasts for many years. There are also various branches of poverty such as disability, elderly, women and immigrant poverty. One of them is child poverty. It is an undeniable fact that children, who are the most affected and most vulnerable people by poverty, also play an important role in overcoming poverty. Children are at the center of the transmission of poverty from generation to generation. Therefore, research and studies on child poverty is an important issue that needs to be carried out. The aim of this study is to examine postgraduate studies in the fields of sociology and social work. The secondary aim is to evaluate the perspective of our country on child poverty and to examine the institutions and social aid practices that are active in the fight against child poverty in our country. In the study, "document analysis" technique, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. 11 theses on child poverty in the field of social work and sociology have been reached through the YÖK National Thesis Center. The theses reached are "universities, the subjects they deal with and types of poverty, methods and samples, micro and macro institutions, their views on the causes and consequences of poverty, etc." analyzed and compared in terms of various variables. As a result of the study, when the data were examined, various partnerships and differences were observed in the theses in terms of the relationship between social work and sociology. It has been seen that the methods and sample preferences used in the theses studied in the discipline of social work and sociology are common. However, it has been seen that studies on child poverty in the field of social work are more practice-based and solution-oriented, while sociology is more theoretical and research-oriented.
