Abstract (EN)

Today, Twitter has become an important platform where politicians communicate directly with the public. This transformation has also significantly changed the functioning of political processes. This study aims to examine the effects of Prof. Dr. Ümit Özdağ's posts on Twitter on political separation during the Presidential elections held in Turkey between 14-28 May 2023; It aims to reveal the increasing impact of social media in political communication and how these effects contribute to the transformation in the field of politics. In addition, the aim of this study is to examine how the messages shared on social media are perceived by people and how this perception affects the political participation of individuals. In this context, the research aims to reveal the role of social media in political communication and how it affects segregation. In this qualitative study, Prof. Dr. Özdağ's Twitter posts during the election period were examined by content analysis method. During the review process, the social effects of the messages and how they were responded to by the public were also evaluated. The study analyzes the language and style used in Özdağ's messages, as well as how these messages resonate in the society. The discussions created by the posts were discussed within the framework of political separation and the reactions of social media users were also evaluated. As a result, this study reveals the importance of social media, especially the Twitter platform, in political communication and the effects of the messages shared in this medium on the society. The analysis made on Prof. Dr. Ümit Özdağ's posts during the election process shows that social media has become not only a communication tool, but also a powerful factor that feeds and directs political division. It is seen that political discourses carried out on Twitter can affect the way individuals think, attitudes and political participation levels. This situation necessitates a closer monitoring of the impact of social media on democratic processes and an increase in research in this field. While this study provides a deepening view of the relationship between social media and politics, it also serves as a guide for similar research in the future.
