Piano education on social media

This study was conducted to examine the educational strategies used by piano instructors teaching on social media platforms. A survey model was used in the research, and it is a quantitative study. The study group consists of 70 instructors who taught piano lessons on social media platforms in 2024-2025. To collect data for the research, a questionnaire prepared by the researcher with input from field experts was used to gather opinions from the instructors. It was determined that Instagram was the most frequently used social media platform by the instructors. The technologies used when sharing lesson content mostly relied on combinations of multiple tools such as “video recording devices, video editing software, music notation programs, and online platforms.” Techniques for sharing lesson content on social media were largely identified as “fun content,” “sharing on special days,” “sharing piano notes,” and “hashtag use.” It was concluded that when sharing lesson content on social media, musical performance and the educational process are shaped not only by technical skills but also by environmental, individual, pedagogical, and physical factors. When examining the content used in social media posts, it is observed that multiple combinations such as “own photo, student's photo, own video, lesson content, student's video, and work narration” stand out. It has been determined that performance videos are the most commonly preferred content type in social media posts, and that the most common posting frequency on social media is once a week. It has been determined that the most common problem encountered in the piano education process conducted via social media is insufficient interaction. When opinions about piano education on social media were examined, it was concluded that the vast majority of participants viewed social media as a supportive and complementary platform in the context of piano education.
