Investigation of the relationship between family sense of belonging levels, subjective well-being levels and identity statuses of Sports Sciences Faculty students

This research was conducted to examine the relationships between the family sense of belonging levels, identity statuses, and subjective well-being levels of sports sciences faculty students; and to determine whether these variables show statistically significant differences according to gender, class, economic status, active license status, weekly activity level, quality of communication with family, and duration of social media use. The participants had an average age of 20.80 and consisted of a total of 251 students, 96 female and 155 male. Independent groups t-test, One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Mann Whitney-U, Kruskal-Wallis, Chi-Square test, Pearson Product Moment Correlation and Hierarchical Regression analysis were used in the analysis of the data. Data analysis was conducted with SPSS 20 program. In the correlation analysis, a positive significant relationship was observed between subjective well-being and family belonging of Sports Sciences students; a positive significant relationship was observed between subjective well-being and discovery sub-dimension; a positive significant relationship was observed between subjective well-being and intrinsic investment sub-dimension. A positive significant relationship was observed between family belonging and discovery sub-dimension of Sports Sciences students. Finally, in the hierarchical regression analysis, it was observed that sense of family belonging predicted subjective well-being (25.9%) and identity statuses contributed 8.7%, making the total variance in subjective well-being levels of Sports Sciences students 34.6%. As a result, it was revealed that there was a relationship between subjective well-being, family belonging and identity statuses of Sports Sciences students and that subjective well-being was predicted by other variables.
