Investigation of the relationships between communication skills and conflict action styles of faculty of sports sciences students (Atatürk Üniversity example)

The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between communication skills and conflict action styles of sports sciences faculty students. In this direction, in the study, firstly, a theoretical framework was created for the concept of communication and conflict, and then a field research was conducted. In the research, data were collected using the "Personal Information Form", "Communication Skills Scale" and "Conflict Action Styles Scale". The sample of the study consisted of a total of 627 students studying in different departments at Atatürk University Faculty of Sports Sciences; 255 of them are women and 372 are men. Data from the students were collected with a survey form prepared by the researcher. The data obtained was analyzed in the SPSS 22 package program. According to the findings, a statistically significant and positive relationship was found between the two scales used. In the study, it was determined that factors such as class level, active sport type, mother's education level, father's education level and family monthly income created a significant difference and relationship on the communication skills of the participants. However, such a relationship could not be detected for other demographic variables. On conflict action styles, it was found that only the duration of active sports and the father's education level made a significant difference. It has been demonstrated that communication skills have a significant positive effect on conflict action styles. In this context, it was concluded that as students' communication skills increased, their responses to conflict action styles became more positive.
