Investigation of the relationships between personality traits and self-perceptions of leadership behaviors of faculty of sport sciences students (Bayburt University example)

Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted to examine the relationships between personality traits and Faculty of Sport Sciences students' self-perception of leadership behaviors. In this context, the relational screening model was used consistently for the purpose of the quantitative study. The sample group of the study consisted of 451 students from the Faculty of Sports Sciences, including 188 females and 263 males. The research group was selected using the convenience sampling method. The data collection tool is a questionnaire consisting of theree parts. The first part of this survey form is the 'Personal Information Form', the second part is the 'Self-Perception Scale for Leadership Behaviors of Undergraduate Students', and the third part is the 'Turkish Big Five Personality Scale'. The descriptive statistics of the raw data obtained through this form were first calculated by considering the data type. Differentiation, correlation, and regression analyses were performed on the dimensions of the scales related to the data obtained in the study. In the findings, significant differences were found in the personality traits of the participants according to the variables of gender, department, and class. However, it was found that there were low levels of significant negative relationships between the age variable and the personality traits of extroversion and meekness sub-dimensions. In addition, it was found that there were significant positive relationships between the variable of the year of active sports and the personality traits of extroversion and meekness sub-dimensions. However, according to the variables of the department studied, actively doing sports and the type of sports branch actively performed, significant differences were found in the self-perceptions of the participants about their leadership behavior. Relationally, a significant positive relationship was found between the age variable and the self-confident leader sub-dimension. In conclusion, significant relationships were found between participants' personality traits and their self-perceptions of leadership behaviors. It was revealed that these personality traits have an impact on self-perceptions of leadership behaviors.
